BUSY BERRIES ACROSS THE SITE

In June we spent the month preparing the plants in our outdoor production ready to start the peak picking season in our tunnels. June is a busy month for us around the farm as we have glasshouse and tunnel production.

Wimbledon fortnight always sees an increase in demand and we had plenty of great tasting berries to supply to our customers whilst they enjoy this Great British tennis tournament.

In the glasshouse we are removing plants that have finished cropping for the Spring season.  We remove these and prepare the glasshouses for an August replant for the new crop of Malling Centenary which will be ready to pick again in October.  This involves removing plants from the bags where we grow them – we use Coir bags from Botanicoir and Agrovista.  These are sustainably sourced coconut husk that is the plant matter that our strawberries grow in.

During this time is the chance for us to make essentials repairs to the glasshouse and to our infrastructure so that we are ready to start the season again in the Autumn.  Our teams work between the glasshouse and tunnels as jobs vary during this busy month and in the lead up to our peak production time.
